A poor yet jolly woman, the elderly Jira ran a small food stand in the Mos Espa marketplace. Among her wares were tasty fruits called pallies. Young Anakin Skywalker befriended Jira, and searched for a cooling unit that the old woman needed.

由于未受保护的食物在塔图因很难长期存放，因此吉拉依靠其破旧的冷却设备维持生计。随着该冷却设备的动力连线线烧坏，该设备成为一堆废铁，但阿纳金在沃图的废品堆里找到一个替换设备，救了吉拉。

Since unprotected food doesn't last long on Tatooine, Jira depended on her worn-down old cooling unit for her livelihood. With its power couplings fused, the unit was useless scrap, but Anakin came to her rescue by finding a replacement device in Watto's junkyard.

吉拉出现在《星战第一部》的修订草稿中，然后就一直没有被后续修改所删除。她和阿纳金在剧本里的对手戏比出现在电影里的最终剪辑版长。而且，阿纳金向吉拉的道别在电影里被删除了，但出现在《第一部》的DVD发行版中。
