个人经历
莫法特首部电视作品是青少年电视剧Press Gang。他的首个情景喜剧Joking Apart受他第一次婚姻的破裂的启发；相反地，他稍后的情景喜剧Coupling基于他与电视出品人Sue Vertue的关係发展。在这两个关于关係的节目中间，他写了Chalk，一个场景设立在一个综合性学校的情景喜剧，受他自己当英语老师经历的启发。作为一个毕生的《神秘博士》迷，莫法特为复活版本写了几集，之后在2009年第五季开始时继承了拉塞尔·T·戴维斯，担任首席编剧和执行出品人。2008年，他为导演史蒂芬·史匹柏写了第一部《丁丁历险记》电影。他联合创始了神探夏洛克，一个夏洛克·福尔摩斯侦探故事的改编本。他工作于的很多节目获奖了，包括他的《神秘博士》剧集获得的英国学术电视奖和雨果奖。
